“The conventional definition of management is getting work done through people, but real management is developing people through work.”
- Agha Hasan Abedi
In business there are two generalizations that you can make about how and why someone becomes a manager.
One: You are very good at the technical work of the business, and because you are loyal and level-headed you get promoted to manager.
Two: You start a business, and before you know it, you are managing others.
But what do you know about managing others? Who taught you?
In the corporate world, management training might be a part of your culture and today you are looking for some new input, a new viewpoint, delivery or experience.
In the small business world, there is often no culture of training, and thus managers are left to their own best devices–not really having a clue how to manage others.
In all cases, managers need ongoing education to help with everyday issues in the job of managing others. Otherwise, they may do this job reluctantly, wishing for the good ‘ol days before they had others to manage and beg for the pain to stop.
Training should not be simply another perk or reward for above-par job performance. It is an absolute necessity that pays for itself many times over in improved performance and business results!
Our workshops use the latest techniques in adult learning–including simulations, case studies, behavior modeling, application exercises, group discussion, and skill building. (Everything but ropes courses and falling exercises!) The emphasis is on application rather than theory–enabling participants to learn new competencies, and giving them the tools to apply them back at work.
These are our most popular workshops for leaders and managers but High Performance Advocates can work with you and your team to help in the areas most critical to the leadership of your company.
