I have currently been working with four business owners on getting clear about the structure of their business. Why? Because no one in these particular companies knows what they were supposed to be doing or how they impact the big picture.

Typically this would mean creating an organization chart with little boxes stacked vertically to depict job functions and whom reports to whom in a business.  Yech! That is so last millennium!
The problem with org charts is that they are myopic, inward looking, hierarchal
and mind numbing.  Your company should be outward looking, innovative, exciting and customer centric. All your people, no matter what job responsibilities need to know how they interact with each other, customers, vendors, the world, the world wide web, the universe, etc.

I ask the companies I work with to think organically about their business. In an effort to think creatively I use Organigraphs.

Last week MetaPoints created an organigraph that brought

tears to my eyes. As we all sat and stared at it, I realized that

it was clear and absolutely perfect for them. It not only explained

how they interface with their customer but with each product, each service, each other, and each professional, volunteer, vendor and

even me. I took a crummy picture of it that will be hard to see here.  This will be drawn into a finished picture soon. Bravo Metapoints.
